Recycling

Copes now participates in the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority’s single stream recycling program. Single stream recycling simply means that paper and cans/bottles no longer need to be separated at the curb; they are collected all together and separated out at the recycling plant in Hartford. The following link connects to a pdf document describing our current recycling regulations.

Copes Recycling Information

Beginning in August 2011, Copes is automating the single stream recycling service in Watertown, Oakville & Middlebury. The new service is every other week recycling. Please contact our office for a recycling calendar or to check which week you recycle on.

Solid Waste

Household Solid Waste is defined by the Connecticut General Statutes as “unwanted or discarded solid, liquid, semisolid or contained gaseous material”. For practical purposes, it is easier to define what Copes can not accept in if it is thrown out with normal household trash. This list is not exhaustive; if you have any questions regarding how to dispose of something please call our office at 860.274.1444 or info@copesrubbish.com.

Unacceptable Solid Waste

  • Any hazardous or flammable material or chemicals
  • Household furniture
  • Appliances or scrap metal
  • Bathroom fixtures such as sinks, bathtubs or toilets
  • Propane, butane or acetylene tanks
  • Yard waste or Christmas trees
  • Tires
